Alumni social media site launches

A new website was unveiled earlier this month which allows members of the Alumni Association to set up a personal page and connect with others in the community.

New users of the social media website are invited to create their profile page, add friends and join discussion groups. They can then search the alumni directory by name, graduation year, department and type of qualification to search for people they want to connect with.

Each user is provided with an inbox so they can exchange messages privately, although a public space has been created on each profile for people to write messages and post items of interest. Alumni are also able to tailor their privacy settings to control how much of their own information and activity is published.

An activity stream keeps people up-to-date on items fellow alumni are posting on the website, also listing updates on groups and entries people have marked as ‘favourite’.
