On 28 November the European External Action Service’s (EEAS) chief operating officer, David O’Sullivan, visited the EU to speak about his experiences in setting up the service.

After talking at length about developing the role of the EEAS in European foreign affairs, O’Sullivan was joined on a panel by the EUI’s President Marise Cremona, Secretary General Pasquale Ferrara, Professor Ulrich Krotz and Federica Bicchi, visiting lecturer from the London School of Economics.

The event closes the 2012 Debating Europe series, which saw guest speakers including economics commentator Martin Wolf, Germany’s Minister of Finance Wolfgang Schäuble and former president of Latvia, Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga.

The 2013 series will run under a new format, with each of the four EUI departments hosting an event.
