FSR energy regulation webinar reaches hundreds of professionals across the globe
On 16 April the Florence School of Regulation (FSR) reached an all-time high in participation levels for its ‘webinar’ on market power in the energy sector. More than 300 people registered for the webinar, which was held in cooperation with the Nobel Laureate Jean Tirole’s team (Toulouse School of Economics), a knowledge partner of the Florence School.
Taught by Thomas-Olivier Léautier, professor of management at the University of Toulouse, the webinar was followed by academics, practitioners, and regulators from around the world. Offered free of charge, listeners had the opportunity to answer polls during the talk, and to submit questions in real time to Professor Léautier.
Annika Zorn, Coordinator at the Florence School of Regulation, said that the attraction of this particular webinar was partly due to the strength and visibility of Jean Tirole’s Toulouse school in this area, for his work on market power and regulation and the science of taming powerful firms. The FSR recently edited a summary of Tirole’s work relevant for energy sector, also prepared by Professor Léautier.
Many of yesterday’s participants are enrolled in the FSR’s 5 month long course on The Regulation of the Power Sector, directed by Ignacio Perez-Arriaga (Professor of energy regulation at MIT). The next edition will start in November 2015.
