In memoriam: Alina Vlad

Alina Vlad (1984-2017)
The EUI was terribly saddened to lose a member of its community, Alina Vlad, who passed away on 13 June 2017 at the age of 32.
Alina was an administrative assistant in the Department of Political and Social Sciences from January 2013 until January 2016, when she transferred to the Department of History.
While in the SPS department, she worked intensively on the eduLIFE and the DFG projects. Professor Hans-Peter Blossfeld, director of those projects, writes ‘… she was such a wonderful colleague and friend who always had a smile on her face. Alina was an excellent and integrated member of the eduLIFE and DFG research groups. We all admired her language skills. As the project coordinator, she was in charge of the administrative side of the eduLIFE team and of the financial management of the project’s budget. We were very happy with her professional and competent approach in managing the administrative and financial sides of the projects. All the time we experienced her as a nice, reliable and friendly person. We all will miss her. In the name of all eduLIFE and DFG project members I would like to express our deep felt compassion to her husband Jules and their families.’
The EUI echoes Professor Blossfeld in his condolences to Alina’s husband, our former colleague Jules Piccotti and to their families. Our heartfelt compassion and sympathy are with them during this painful time.
The funeral will take place on Saturday, 17 June at 11:30 in the Chiesa Ortodossa Rumena di Santa Lucia al Galluzzo, via del Podestà n. 90. Friends who wish to bid her a last farewell may pay their respects at OFISA, viale Milton 90, Florence, on Friday in the late morning and all afternoon, or until 10:00 a.m. Saturday.
