Professor Rainer Bauböck has been awarded an honorary doctorate from Malmö University, where he was the first holder of the Willy Brandt guest professorship in 2000.
“It is my first honorary doctorate so it was a complete surprise and of course it is nice to be recognised in this way,” he states.
The purpose of the professorship is to strengthen research in international migration and ethnic relations. It is named after the former chancellor of West Germany in recognition of his own personal experiences as a refugee during the Second World War, and his efforts in the areas of human rights and race relations.
Professor Bauböck received his honorary doctorate at an event to mark the 15th anniversary of Malmö University on 18 October last month.
